From toe-tapping live performances to mouthwatering street food and boutique shopping, there’s plenty of things on the menu for families to enjoy at this year’s Twilight Fest and Feast.
Held on the opening night of the Laidley Spring Festival – Friday, September 12 - this free community event will transform the Laidley Recreational Reserve into a bustling hub where music lovers, foodies, and families can come together to enjoy the festivities from 5pm-9pm.
Held over three big days from September 12-14, this year’s Retro Revival theme is set to bring the fun and nostalgia like never before, with highlights of the festival being the Twilight Feast and Fest, the lively Laidley Street Parade, flashy Show ‘n’ Shine car and bike competition, and the blooming Spring Gardening Fair.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said Twilight Feast and Fest would bring an extra layer of excitement to an already action-packed festival.
“The Laidley Recreational Reserve will sparkle when Twilight Feast and Fest returns, offering a magical evening of live entertainment, specialty stalls, and irresistible food trucks under the stars,” Cr Milligan said.
“There’s nothing like live music on a Friday night to set the vibe for a fabulous weekend, and we have organised an incredible lineup of performers to entertain the crowds and get them up and grooving the night away.
“The boutique makers and creators’ market will offer an early preview of Saturday’s main event, featuring a diverse range of handcrafted and locally made goods you won’t find in your local shopping centre.
“When it’s time to refuel, food connoisseurs will be spoilt for choice with a wide selection of food trucks dishing up everything from classic street favourites to bold new flavours.
“It’s the perfect evening to grab a picnic blanket, gather your friends and family, and come together with the community to celebrate everything that makes the Lockyer Valley so special.”
Among the performers taking to the stage will be Brisbane-based band Phat Sauce, known for their talented musicians and high-energy sets.
Band manager and trumpet player Evan Osborne said he can’t wait to get the crowd up on their feet.
“We're absolutely thrilled to be invited to perform at the festival, especially since the theme of this year’s festival is retro and disco,” Evan said.
“Our show is all about high energy, audience interaction, and creating a fun atmosphere.. Some of our favourite songs to perform are Car Wash by Rose Royce, Ain't Nobody by Chaka Khan, Voulez-Vous by ABBA, and Rasputin by Boney M, which are all are crowd favourites.”
Shoppers can get a head start on Saturday’s popular market experience, with a diverse range of stalls featuring the work of talented local and regional artisans.
Market coordinator Julie Hewitt said the evening will highlight a unique mix of handcrafted goods and specialty items.
“We’ll have a collection of talented crafters from across the Lockyer Valley and beyond including soy candles with scents such as ‘mum’s last nerve’ and locally distilled gins and vodka,” Julie said.
“We will also have Boho fashion, toys, handsewn bags, leather hats, gold and silver jewellery, gourmet seasoned salts, soaps and skincare, metal wall art, handmade cookies, traditionally wood smoked small goods, macrame, baby’s clothes, customised pony caps, and more.
“On top of that we’ll also have a delicious selection of cuisine available this year with baked spuds, Japanese tacos, fish and chips, burgers, German currywurst, fried chicken, woodfired pizza, gourmet hand cut calamari, Brazilian barbecue, Teppanyaki, Malaysian cuisine, dumplings, tornado potatoes, Greek and Mediterranean cuisines, and a sausage sizzle,” Julie said.
